MN GreenStar Associate (GSA)

MN GreenStar Associates will demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts of green design, building, and remodeling and how to apply these to construction and sales using the MN GreenStar process. The designation will provide confidence to homeowners that MN GreenStar Associates have a practical understanding of green building. The designation also will offer building industry practitioners a credible means to differentiate their knowledge in the green building marketplace.

Process to Become a MN GreenStar Associate (GSA)

1. Attend the full-day training offered by MN GreenStar.
a. Attendance at training is highly encouraged but is not required
b. Self-study can be achieved through review of the resources provided on the www.mngreenstar.org website
2. Pass the open-resource test within the time frame required

Process to Maintain the MN GreenStar Associate (GSA) status:

1. Provide proof of 4 (contact or clock) hours of attendance at green design, building, or remodeling classes every two (2) years. These hours must be self-reported to the MN GreenStar office by February 28 of your second full year of GSA status.

MN GreenStar Professional (GSP)

MN GreenStar Professionals will demonstrate knowledge at the Associate (GSA) level as well as their ability to successfully apply the MN GreenStar Checklist to at least one remodeling/new home construction project. The designation will provide confidence to homeowners that MN GreenStar Professionals have a practical understanding of green building and have participated in the creation of a certified MN GreenStar new home or remodeling project. This designation will provide MN GreenStar Professionals with a credible means to differentiate their knowledge and successful implementation of a third-party verified MN GreenStar project for the green building marketplace.

Process to Become a MN GreenStar Professional (GSP)

  1. Attend the full-day training offered by MN GreenStar
    1. Attendance at training is highly encouraged but is not required
    2. Self-study can be achieved through review of the resources provided on the www.mngreenstar.org website
  2. Pass the open-resource test within the time frame required
  3. Participate in a certified MN GreenStar project
    1. Your name must appear as the primary contact on the General Project and Team Information tab of the checklist
    2. Or, you must provide a letter from a supervisor stating that your time was equal to a minimum of 40% of the total hours your company spent on the job.
  4. Provide service to the MN GreenStar organization OR be a MN GreenStar member
    1. Service options:
      1. Recruit 3 members
      2. Recruit 1 sponsor
      3. Mentor another professional or student
      4. Participate on a MN GreenStar committee or Board of Directors
      5. Volunteer a minimum of 4 hours of time each year
        1. Trade show booth set up and/or tear down
        2. Eco-Experience or Living Green Expo
        3. Other MN GreenStar Event (TBD)
    2. MN GreenStar member
      1. Corporate
      2. Individual or student
